Global and Mail reports on "iPhone’s cross-border price clash"

Canadian national newspaper discusses the plan pricing differences between Rogers and AT&T.

You will find this story, The iPhone’s cross-border price clash, on the front page of the Report on Business section of today’s Global and Mail newspaper.

As I pointed out in this post on June 30, a number of iPhone hungry Canadians were upset at Roger’s voice and data packages for the iPhone 3G.

Canadians ticked at Rogers’ expensive iPhone 3G voice and data packages

Pricey packages have some Canadians dreaming of Manifest Destiny.

July 1st is Canada Day.  Like many Canucks, I look forward to enjoying the holiday and celebrating the 141th birthday of the greatest nation on Earth.  However, after seeing Roger’s iPhone 3G voice and data packages I have to admit, I’m a bit envious of my American neighbours.

Are you looking for an 1.8 to 3.5 IDE adapter?

I use Google Analytics to analyze my blog traffic.  In particular, it helps me undertand what search keywords people are using to discover this blog.

As it turns out, I’m not the only one looking for an 1.8 to 3.5 IDE adapter.  A number of people have landed here while searching for this elusive adapter.

So for their benefit, I purchased an adapter from 1topstore.com.  It was shipped from Hong Kong and arrived a few weeks later.  The price was reasonable and the unit worked perfectly.

Mobile browsing with Opera Mini 4 Beta

Opera Mini - The free Web browser for nearly any phone

Frankly, I’ve never been very satisfied by the web browsing capabilities of mobile devices like cell phones and PDAs.

Lately, I’ve been test driving the beta version of Opera Mini 4 on a BlackBerry 8700 and so far it looks promising.

I’ve been most impressed by the zoom capability and `virtual`mouse. Both are demonstrated in this video.

One thing that makes Opera Mini different from other browsers is the fact that each web page is funnelled through a remote server for pre-processing. The Opera website claims:

Web content is compressed to reduce the size of data transferred, enabling handling on simpler phones and creating fast browsing at low costs.

I have experienced a noticeable delay while accessing the first website. I suspect this pre-processing is responsible for this. However, subsequent surfing doesn`t seem affected.

Wanted: 1.8 to 3.5 IDE adapter

Judging by the sluggish response and loud “clicking” sounds, my iPod‘s internal hard drive is having experiencing a meltdown.

Before I shell out a couple hundred bills for a shiny new model, I’d like to try to resuscitate the internal hard drive by attaching it to a PC and running Spinrite

However, my iPod uses a 1.8 inch Toshiba hard drive.  Before I can attach it, I need to get my hands on an 1.8 inch to 3.5 inch IDE adapter.

Does anyone know where I can find one?

Well, it looks sweet…

By now, you’ve probably heard about Apple’s iPhone.  It appears to be a fantastic piece of technology.  I’ll admit I was surprised they combined the video and phone capabilities into a single iPod.  There had long been rumours of these devices.

Although Blaine seems excited by it, I’m starting to have my doubts.  For instance:

  • What’s the standby battery life of the phone?  This specification is missing from the Apple website.
  • Is it durable?  It looks great, but people are pretty rough with their phones.  Will this hold up?
  • If it’s a video player, why only 4 or 8 GB?  This isn’t large enough for my music, podcasts, and audiobooks.

CNET’s Crave blog raises a few more questions.
